26 October, 00:00

For the first time in Ukraine visually impaired voters will be able to participate in presidential elections on their own, Serhiy Rudyk, chairman of the Public Servants Association told an October 20 press conference in Kyiv. “Legislation has not made it possible for this category of people to take part in the elections,” he stressed. According to Rudyk, special stencils will be prepared, which will enable such people using Braille to read the information contained on the ballot. (Such stencils will be spread in the constituencies of compact residence of visually impaired people, as proposed by the Central Election Committee). The cost of this project, said the Association chairman, is only $1,000, but it will enable “this category of people to fulfill themselves.” The project is funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
