Visa-free travel deal signed by Georgia and Iran

Georgia’s and Iran’s foreign ministers Grigol Vashadze and Manouchehr Mottaki signed a deal in Tbilisi regarding a visa-free regime between the countries. This document is expected to become legally effective in 2011. The agreement envisages 45-day-long visa-free travels for Georgian and Iranian nationals in both countries. Vashadze said this was another step taken in the direction of developing friendly bilateral relations. Mottaki said it was a new phase in the relations between Georgia and Iran: “Georgia is there to benefit Iran, just as Iran is there to benefit Georgia… The Black Sea will be linked to the Persian Gulf. This is very convenient for businessmen who will use this transit route to expand their business.”
