During their visit to Lviv Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (United) leaders Yevhen Marchuk and Vasyl Onopenko demonstrated the falseness of statements about the apolitical nature of young people.
The assembly hall of the local institute of physical culture was packed with students standing in all the entrances and filling the balcony. Yevhen Marchuk made public his thesis that in the transition period Ukraine needs a strong and even harsh regime. What he has in mind is not a military government or dictatorship. "A strong regime," he clarified, "is a state power which makes use of the support and understanding of its citizens, and a harsh state power in the first place has to emphasize that it is itself clean."
