Foreign Ministry Ready to Help Ukrainian Sailors Return

23 April, 2002 - 00:00

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine is ready to press for the return of the crew of the cargo ship Lori flying the Ukrainian flag. However, crew members have not appealed to official representatives of Ukraine abroad to be taken home, Foreign Ministry press service chief Serhiy Borodenkov announced at an April 16 briefing. As has been previously reported, the Lori with six Ukrainian sailors onboard has been impounded in the Mexican territorial waters in the port of Seiba Playa, Campeche state. The owners abandoned the ship and the crew whom they owe some $30,000 in pay. However, according to Mr. Borodenkov, the arrest imposed on the vessel does not apply to the crew members.
