Herbst Worried About Administrative Resource

The United States is worried about the administrative resource interfering in the struggle of political forces in Ukraine, American Ambassador John Herbst said during his Kharkiv meeting with head of the oblast state administration Yevhen Kushnariov. “We support Ukraine in its striving to become a member of the Euro-Atlantic community,” Interfax Ukraine quotes the ambassador. Simultaneously, Ambassador Herbst stressed that it would be difficult [for the US] to be partners with a country that does not share its principles, the first among which is democracy. The American diplomat also stated that Washington is worried about administrative measures preventing self-expression of the political parties in Ukraine, adding that he means measures used to prevent the Our Ukraine forum. John Herbst also said that it does not matter to the United States who wins the elections, since this is up to Ukrainians, adding that it is important for Washington that the Ukrainian people have an opportunity to hear various views, have free access to the information, and will be able to make its own choice in the final result.
