I could walk out of this country
I am writing to a newspaper for the first time in my life. I discovered your newspaper three months ago because newsagents offer it unwillingly. For me, a worker, this newspaper is like the discovery of something incredible. It turns out there are courageous people capable of writing the truth. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I have written not to take part in the The Day 's Experts Contest, for I lack the knowledge. Simply my heart sinks out of desperation. What is going on? After the war (what could be more horrible?) we had to start from scratch. We had free hospitals with medicine, food, and clothes for patients. Now there is not even cotton wool. And how we liked to read! A postman could hardly lift his bag, for each family subscribed to 5-10 publications. And now? The city is now snowed under with gaudy eye-catching pulp. They tell you how to become a call-girl. Terrible! Living standards must have touched an all-time low.
Here are our achievements over the past nine years: hot water to schedule, UAH18 to have a tooth filled and 15 to have one pulled out. Local «amateurs» sear a sore spot with sulfuric acid for UAH1 and guarantee «it won't ache again.» Empty kindergartens, mean young people, everything torn down and ruined. What for? Why? The beach is the nursery of infection because this is south! You can't write of everything that speaks volumes.
I am unemployed and receive an allowance once every 3 months. But the savings bank does not pay it in full, so I have to keep coming in for another month to claim it. If a certain country would take me in, I would walk away and even abandon the apartment I have been trying to get for 15 years.
Socio-economic changes are murderous. But I still pin my hopes for improvement on Yevhen Marchuk. Fools learn by their own mistakes, and wise people by those of others.
Wishing you success!
