Implementation Deferred Until January

26 December, 00:00

In connection with the current situation in parliament, it was decided not to schedule consideration of bills about implementation of the results of the all-Ukrainian referendum, Roman Bezsmertny, permanent representative of the President of Ukraine in Verkhovna Rada, disclosed on December 21. Mr. Bezsmertny said in an interview that this decision had been made last Wednesday by the parliament’s coordination council, which was drawing up the agenda for Thursday. The people’s deputy thinks that, “with due account of all the developments and the political climate,” putting these items on the agenda could further aggravate the situation, UNIAN reports. Mr. Bezsmertny revealed that the Constitutional Court had decided to defer this item until the next plenary session on Thursday, January 11, 2001.
