07 September, 00:00

Now, in addition to the Kaniv Four, we have the Kamyanets-Podilsky Seven: seven agents representing the interests of Yevhen Marchuk, Oleksandr Moroz, Oleksandr Tkachenko, Natalia Vitrenko, Petro Symonenko, Yuri Kostenko, and Hennady Udovenko in Constituency No. 191 made public a joint statement, sending a copy to the local prosecutor, about the «unlawful conduct of ranking officials in the City Executive Committee, City Council, District State Administration, and ‘Social Protection' Fund,» pointing to their flagrant violations of the laws On Elections of the President of Ukraine, On Civil Service, and the Criminal Code. The statement reads, in part: «The City Council sent a letter to the managers of enterprises and organizations... proposing membership in election committees, which violates Article 14 of the law of Ukraine On Elections of the President of Ukraine... Chairmen of village councils were instructed to organize canvassing headquarters and collect information to be handed over to the organization department of the District State Administration... Ranking officials of the City Executive Committee hold ungrounded and secret negotiations with former chairmen of local election committees concerning their repeated appointment at the head of the newly formed such committees, to back the President of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma.» The document mentions other outrages being witness to the local authorities openly playing a one-sided game, determined to get Leonid Kuchma reelected. The Day contacted Kamyanets-Podilsky's city prosecutor's office to find out their response to the above statement, which was none whatsoever. Mykola Yanchuk of Yevhen Marchuk's campaign says that «representatives of almost all political forces are uniting in the constituencies to resist such provocations and foul play by the well-paid hirelings of a regime in its death throes.»
