KYIV AND CHISINAU HAVE NO MISUNDERSTANDINGS Will Moldova print its money here?

Yon Chubuk, Prime Minister of Moldova, was in Kyiv on a one-day visit on August 4. The key issue discussed with the Ukrainian political leadership was the delimitation and demarcation of the Ukrainian-Moldovan national frontiers, along with various minor disputes like parts of Odesa oblast bordering on Moldova, The Day's Oleksandr Paliy reports. Among other things discussed were Moldova's arrears on Ukrainian power supplies.

The demarcation of the Transnistria border region is complicated by Chisinau having no actual control over this territory, while Kyiv will not negotiate the matter with Tiraspol, considering the latter's "non-state status." Mr. Chubuk's stay in Kyiv included a visit to the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (third from the left).
