A historical monument of architecture, the building of the Cherkasy Wedding Palace, will soon undergo major modifications, including an extensive restoration of the facade, and a complex neighborhood revitalization. The latter will include renewing sidewalks, arranging outside lights, ornamental lawns and flowerbeds. The client is the local council. In order to safeguard passers-by from the building dust and waste, the part of the registry office building was surrounded by a fence.

According to Maryna Herashchenko, director of the Department of Architecture, Construction and Land Surveying of the Cherkasy city executive committee, there is no talk of annexation. The project focuses on improving the neighborhood of the historical monument of architecture.

The lion’s share of facade restoration works will be financed by the state budget. Three million hryvnias were assigned but the money has yet to come in. In its turn, the local treasury will undertake expenses for the arrangement of lamp posts around the registry office building, 300,000 hryvnias are to be provided for this purpose. Design-driven documentation is already prepared. All the works will be done by the Cherkasymisksvitlo utility enterprise.

“There was a bid held on the building restoration, in which two lots were presented: facade restoration and neighborhood improvement. Serviceprommontazh-21S won both. Preliminary works are now underway,” Herashchenko said.

The old paint coat will be removed and replaced with a new one. This will not only make the building more attractive but also better protected. No extensive internal repairs are planned. According to Herashchenko, the works were initially planned to be completed by the end of October. However, delays in state financing have since pushed back the deadling.

TO THE POINT

he historical monument of architecture, the building of the registry office, was built in 1907-1912 on Sadova street (now Lenin street), where it joins Khreshchatyk. The building was constructed for the Cherkasy engineer Afanasii Shcherbyna. The architect, unfortunately, is unknown. Earlier there was a winter garden with a fountain in the building. Near the mansion there was a building for servants and a stable. After the October revolution this was where the party headquarters were located, during the German occupation it housed a gendarmerie, and after the war — a Pioneer Palace until 1983, when it was re-equipped as Palace of Solemn Events.
