Lviv University professors assess articles from The Day

08 June, 00:00

Half of the materials carried by The Day are actively discussed and studied by Lviv’s Taras Shevchenko National University students who are majoring in journalism, said Prof. Yosyp Los, Head of the Foreign Press and Information Chair (photo: at left) who, along with Faculty Dean Mykhailo Prysiazhny, visited The Day’s Editor-in-Chief Larysa Ivshyna toward the end of last week. Their visit was a very pleasant surprise indeed. When the conversation turned to the articles published in our newspaper, Yosyp Los pointed out, “This is the right way to raise topical matters,” adding that the leads and articles written by The Day’s consultant, the late Prof. James Mace, were a shining example of a sound, moral journalistic approach.

In fact, the visit by The Day’s friends from Lviv was more than a fine gesture. Larysa Ivshyna, who had been invited to attend the faculty’s fiftieth anniversary in January, noted that her newspaper’s projects have always found support in that city. Prof. Yosyp Los also suggested a series of seminars, perhaps even a target-oriented international conference, on the university campus sometime in September or October, and said he hoped the editor-in-chief of The Day would kindly agree to conduct one of the seminars.

An interview with Prof. Yosyp Los, focusing on the tasks facing the National University of Lviv, as well as on the principles of teaching journalism, will be featured in one of our upcoming issues.
