Civic activists unfurled a canvas in Halytska Square of Lviv, near the King Danylo monument, inviting everyone to leave a message for the people who will mark the 100th anniversary of the Holodomor.

Let us recall that similar campaigns are also taking place in other cities of Ukraine, including Kyiv. When they end, all canvasses will be sent to the capital for joining up, and the resulting 20-meter-long patchwork banner will be put on display on a hill near the National Memorial in Commemoration of Famines’ Victims in Ukraine on November 23, the Holodomor Remembrance Day.

The campaign’s organizer is the Public Remembrance Committee for the Victims of the Genocidal Famine of 1932-33 in Ukraine. On November 4, the committee asked local communities to compose messages to the descendants who will be responsible for marking the 100th anniversary of the tragedy. The appeal went to every community of Ukraine, and their representatives will bring the messages to Kyiv in advance of the remembrance events on November 23. They will make up a new volume of the National Book of Memory.
