Slovak law enforcement has released no information or documents on the
arrest of Ukrainian
citizen Oleh Tkhoryk.
All that is known is that he was taken into custody first on charges
of racketeering and later on the January murder of Jan Dutsky, former Slovakian
Economy Minister and former director of the Slovakian gas industry concern,
acting head of the information department of the Ukrainian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Ihor Hrushko informed The Day.
Mr. Hrushko added that the Ukrainian Embassy in Slovakia is now taking
all measures possible to protect the rights of our compatriot. Almost immediately
after the fact of Tkhoryk's arrest was made public by the mass media, an
official request for information on Tkhoryk's involvement in criminal activities
was forwarded to the Slovak Ministry of Justice.
In addition, Mr. Hrushko stated that the charges had been brought based
exclusively on information from witnesses. "The arrest is an accomplished
fact. And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will oversee the case," he said.
The Ukrainian citizen was previously arrested by the Slovak police several
months ago. It is quite strange that the local authorities kept silent.
In all previous cases related to arrests of Ukrainian citizens, our country's
diplomatic institutions were informed within 24 hours.
