New British Ambassador Named

Robert Brinkley has been appointed Her Majesty’s new ambassador in Ukraine, the United Kingdom Embassy told The Day. Current British Ambassador Roland Smith is leaving diplomatic service in July next year, while Robert Brinkley is expected to arrive in Kyiv in August. According to the embassy, Mr. Brinkley, 47, a Stonyhurst and Oxford University’s Corpus Christi College graduate, began his diplomatic career in 1977. Fluent in Russian, he served two terms with the British Embassy in Moscow, as well as in Geneva and Bonn. Mr. Brinkley is currently chairman of the Joint Entry Clearance Unit of the Foreign and Home Offices of Great Britain. The ambassador-designate says his hobbies are walking, books, and music.
