New Chornobyl disaster possible at any moment

On April 2 Valentyn Kupny, Deputy Director of the Chornobyl Plant described the condition of the containment structure, built in answer to the world's worst nuclear disaster, as such that "it will certainly lead to a catastrophe," reports Vitaly Kuksa, The Day.

The issue is that the fourth plant could again suffer an explosion inside the sarcophagus, damaging the containment vessel.

Despite the West's readiness in principle to supply the funds needed to carry out the Containment 2 Project, experts cannot agree how it will be carried out. The reason is the great lack of clarity about precisely what is happening within the sarcophagus itself. Nobody really knows.
