“No time for defeat”

Republishing of Lina Kostenko’s historical novel Berestechko by the Lybid Publishing House marks the poetess’s unniversary
23 March, 00:00

Lina Kostenko is about to break her many years of quite telling silence — and with several books at that. The first one is Berestechko. Written in the late 1960s, now it seems to be prophetic.

The new edition has already appeared in print in the Lybid Publishing House and was launched on Monday, March 22, in the Ukrainian Home in Kyiv.

The text of Berestechko in the new edition suddenly acquires new artistic layers. Owing to the graphic artist Serhii Yakutovych, the confession of Bohdan Khmelnytsky is embodied in an almost cinematographic way. And the CD which carries the audio recording of the work, performed by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Archpriest Petro Boiko, lends Kostenko’s text a theatrical dimension. The Day will feature Ivan Dziuba’s and Volodymyr Panchenko’s contemplations on the poetess’s creative work, as an introduction to the new edition.

The Day extends its greetings to all Ukrainians on the occasion of our outstanding poetess’s new books.
