Oleksandr Moroz Ready to Make Friends with Everybody

12 May, 00:00
By Valery KOSTIUKEVYCH, The Day "To remove the current ruling regime," said Socialist Party leader Oleksandr Moroz last Friday in Zhytomyr, "I am ready to cooperate with practically all presidential candidates in the coming elections." He also pointed out the possibility of specific negotiations over coalitions with the most realistic contenders for the presidency at a certain stage of the pre-election marathon, when the popularity ratings of its participants became clearer, as well as over the distribution of key posts in case one of these candidates wins. Answering The Day's question if such deals are possible with candidates other than from the Left, Mr. Moroz confirmed that the search for a coalition does and will not include only figures of this spectrum of politics, mentioning in this connection the name of Yevhen Marchuk. However, he added, there will be no talks with Progressive Socialist leader Natalia Vitrenko, one of the candidates Mr. Moroz thinks were "appointed" by Leonid Kuchma.

At the same time, in his opinion, if the current President and Communist leader Petro Symonenko qualify for the second round of the presidential elections, the former will have a much greater chance to win. In other words, Mr. Moroz means in this context that he considers himself the most electable leftist candidate.
