Aerobatics stunts during the air show at the Sknyliv airfield on the outskirts of Lviv, where a plane crash took a heavy toll in human lives back in July, were organized and performed in violation of applicable regulations. Such are the latest findings of the investigation conducted by the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine has learned from the General Prosecutor’s Office press service.
The investigation is underway and its duration is open-ended, with 115 forensic medical examinations of victims of the catastrophe to be completed. According to the press service, currently the list of surviving victims includes 492 persons. It is also expected that in the near future indictments will be issued against a number of individuals directly involved with the organization of flights.
The General Prosecutor’s Office has reminded that so far four persons have been indicted in connection with the case, namely former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Air Force Volodymyr Strelnykov, former commander of the 14th aviation corps Serhiy Onyshchenko, former deputy commander of the 14th aviation corps Anatoly Tretyakov, and assistant flight dispatcher Yuri Yatsiuk. As regards the pilots of the ill-fated Su-27 fighter jet, Volodymyr Toponar and Yuri Yehorov, a criminal case has been initiated, although no indictments have been brought against them as they are still undergoing treatment as inpatients.
