Or a Roman Holiday

The Day’s correspondent Klara Gudzyk has received an invitation from the Vatican’s information service to visit the Vatican and take part in the Holy Year festivities devoted to the 2000th anniversary of Christ’s Nativity. Our correspondent will have a unique opportunity to take an inside look at the system of Ukrainian institutions in the Vatican, and to meet closely the people who work there, the researchers, and the Ukrainian students who study at theological universities. Also planned is an audience with Pope John Paul II. As we were told from the Vatican, no correspondent of a Ukrainian lay newspaper has ever received an invitation of this kind before. Klara Gudzyk is also going to visit a Roman Ukrainian parish which takes care of the “illegals,” i.e., our citizens who come to Italy from Ukraine in search of work without visas, money and any prospect. As is known, the destinies of young women take the most dramatic shapes. It is gratifying to make sure again that Ukrainian newspapers are read not only in this country. We hope our readers will take interest in Klara Hudzyk’s “Roman” materials.
