Our President Yevhen Marchuk Headquarters Broken Into

14 September, 00:00

Stepan Sereda, deputy chief of Yevhen Marchuk's election headquarters in Lviv, informed The Day 's Mykola SAVELIEV that the Drohobych office was vandalized on the night of September 6-7. The intruders smashed the furniture and telephones, stole a large panel reading «With Yevhen Marchuk — into the Twenty-First Century,» Ukrainian Republican Party membership questionnaires, and canvassing literature. Mr. Sereda feels certain that some of the local law enforcement functionaries is involved, and the militia do not even want to open a case.

In a telephone conversation with The Day , Colonel Ivan Yusypovych, head of the Drohobych City Department of Internal Affairs, partially confirmed this: «In all likelihood we will not initiate criminal proceedings, because the whole thing has an obvious political coloration,» he said.
