Pasqual Pledges To Help Ukraine “Move Forward”

Ukraine stands the best chance ever to determine its place in Europe, newly appointed US Ambassador to Ukraine Carlos Pasqual is quoted as saying. On the second day of his stay in Kyiv the ambassador presented his credentials to Ukraine’s head of state. President Leonid Kuchma confirmed Ukraine’s intention to develop mutually advantageous cooperation with the US, Interfax Ukraine reports. According to Mr. Kuchma, Ukraine also counts on support by the USA and international financial organizations in the process of democratic and market changes. Pasqual pointed out that our country is in a very complicated stage of transformation and is faced with difficulties, but, in the ambassadors opinion, Ukraine needs to continue moving ahead. Equally Mr. Pasqual stressed the necessity to introduce changes not only on the national but also the local level. As the ambassador put it, the top priorities of his work will include the willingness to assist Ukraine in its aspirations to shape its future as that of a democratic European state and also take decisive steps to achieve this goal. Mr. Pasqual also assured his audience that he will commit himself to creating a society in Ukraine which will allow the people of Ukraine to fully realize its potential. The American ambassador noted that Ukraine’s Ambassador to the US Kostiantyn Hryshchenko also presented his credentials to President Bill Clinton on the second day of his stay in the USA. Pasqual considers this coincidence a reflection of the existing political partnership between our countries.
