Premier For Rehabilitation of UPA Fighters

19 March, 00:00

Premier Anatoly Kinakh now champions the soonest possible rehabilitation of combatants of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). “I wholeheartedly support this rehabilitation taking effect as soon as possible,” Mr. Kinakh said on March 12 in the Ivano- Frankivsk oblast town of Kosiv where he spoke to townspeople in the streets. As the premier phrased it, the UPA is “part of Ukraine’s history,” and “it is common knowledge that one who renounces his history has but no future.” Mr. Kinakh also stated that in his discussions on this matter with opponents from the Left, Communists among others, he cites the examples of France and Spain. In part, he said, the monument to Napoleon is in downtown Paris and that of Franco is in downtown Madrid, reports Interfax-Ukraine. The premier underscored that in the aftermath of World War II the belligerent sides in the countries delegated their representatives to parliaments and they joined forces to develop their states. The sad truth is OUN-UPA veterans still do not enjoy the same privileges as Soviet Great Patriotic War veterans.
