The Business School of the MIM-Kyiv has held a launch of the book of world-renowned scholar, member of the Club of Rome, Gunter Pauli, The Blue Economy: 10 years – 100 innovations – 100 million jobs.

Owing to the International Risk Reduction Foundation and Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Foundation, this worldwide best seller has been translated into Ukrainian, and the author could personally present it for the Ukrainian audience.

Bohdan Hawrylyshyn, a world-renowned scholar and member of the Rome Club, emphasized in the preface, Dr. Pauli’s book, like the whole concept of the Blue Economy, is quite topical nowadays. For the way of economic thinking suggested by Pauli, places the man in the center of the system, whereas the classical economy gets more and more dehumanized. Besides, the Blue Economy offers quite simple and low-cost decisions in the conditions of limited resources, being also environment-friendly. Its aim is to find innovative solutions, harmless for the environment and society. The main thing is not to be imitating the decisions, Pauli emphasized during his lecture at the MIM. It will be enough to spot the problem and see how the nature resolves it. So, for example, the white-and-black coloring of zebra’s skin may hint the idea of practically free ventilation. Playing only with black and white colors in turns one can create the pressure drop, hence the change in air circulation. So, painting a house in black and white strips, you can save on ventilation in hot season of the year by five percent energy. And there are numerous examples of this kind in nature. The book The Blue Economy: 10 years – 100 innovations – 100 million jobs includes many convincing examples of cooperation between nature and economy and shows the way to harmonious ecological and economic development of the society. These are elementary physical laws. The only thing you have is to know and understand them, Pauli asserts.

Pauli’s scientific postulate is that “nature has nothing unnecessary,” therefore the reasonable usage of resources at every stage of man’s economic activity is an obligatory condition of economy’s competitiveness. The scientist is sure that restoring of ecological balance and economic development should be interconnected processes. And this should be taught already in school. Pauli even wrote special fairy tales for children to teach them to understand the elementary laws of nature.

Gunter Pauli is a well known scientist, member of the Rome Club, and ideologist of the Blue Economy, the modern paradigm of a harmonious coexistence of man and environment. He is a founder and leader of the global association ZERI (Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives), a society of creative people who seek to overcome the urgent problems of the world.

Pauli has resided on four continents and he has a free command of seven languages. The spheres of his activity include business, culture, science, politics, and environment. Pauli authors 16 books, which have been translated into 27 languages of the world.
