PRESIDENT WORTH HIS OPPOSITION

27 April, 00:00
By Volodymyr ZOLOTARIOV, The Day What are our Communists known for? First of all, for being a kind of "official opposition." That is, they point their finger at the current authorities as their principal enemy, while the authorities do the same to them.

Honestly, I cannot recall any constructive activity by the CPU aimed at actually solving a problem (except the typically Communist decisions to allocate funds nobody knows where to get). It all comes to shouting about what a bad government we now have with no sound explanations as to why it is bad and what is to be done to mend its defects. They use, as what can be called the Universal Explainer, the well-worn Marxist-Leninist rhetoric about "the working people," "class struggle," and so forth. Today, when we see a host of preachers telling us that our right ear itches only because we have not yet shown our faith in God, it becomes quite clear that Marxism-Leninism is much the same. An opposition like this is very convenient for the authorities. This is also corroborated by indirect evidence, namely, endless splits on the Right, which really is dangerous for Leonid Kuchma.

However, the Administration strategists' Left games are far from innocuous. The Communists cannot confine themselves to "trifles," they have to change everything, including the post-1991 world order. For example, it became known recently that the Left intends to hold in Chernihiv a meeting of Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, and Yugoslav lawmakers. It is clear that the so-called Slavic Union is a chimera, but, unfortunately, Communists have implemented chimeras before with results that are well known. All we can do in this situation is advise the Administration "strategists" to reread the latest history of Germany, and address to Petro Symonenko (in the photo) the words of our reader Anatoly Lytovchenko: "Before going into politics, find your Fatherland."
