The President’s Every Step on His Official Website

Recently one more step was made toward transparency of the actions of the president as chief executive. Starting from August 24, anybody interested has the opportunity to visit the official website of the President of Ukraine (www.president.gov.ua). There are no obstacles: you need not surmount any bureaucratic barriers or make an appointment. You can simply send a letter to Leonid Kuchma. For those unable to read Ukrainian there are materials in Russian.

There are all kinds of information on the new presidential website. Here one can familiarize him/herself with some well-known items like the Constitution or the Human Rights Declaration or obtain the latest news on the activities of the head of the state. Declarations, interviews, meetings, trips, documents signed — everything is at your fingertips. In addition, the site includes Mr. Kuchma’s daily schedule plus official documents and decrees issued by him.

One can also find out about the correct way to compose a petition to the president or send him a letter (the site’s authors claim that no message will remain unanswered) or discuss most acute issues at a forum. There is also information on local administrations and state bodies in Ukraine. The site includes many useful references, databases, and photo banks containing numerous photo reports. For the convenience of visitors the site is also equipped with a search machine.
