Presidents of Ukraine And Slovakia Met in Uzhhorod

26 December, 2000 - 00:00

Slovak President Rudolf Schuster has declared that he favors maximum utilization of energy transport corridors going through Slovak and Ukrainian territory. On December 19, summing up the results of the meeting in Uzhhorod with Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, Mr. Schuster stres- sed that the item of constructing new transport corridors “is of strategic value” for Slovakia.

As regards the possibility of Slovakia taking part in the international consortium on constructing the Odesa-Brody-Gdansk oil pipeline, Pres. Schuster noted that “Slovakia has to consider carefully whether it is more profitable to use old lines or the new ones.” In his turn, Leonid Kuchma reminded one and all that Ukraine and Poland are speaking out for the creation of an international consortium to build the Odesa-Brody-Gdansk pipeline project, and invited Slovakia to participate, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

During the summit the presidents discussed further development of bilateral relations. Rudolf Schuster noted that there are certain problems in both countries’ cooperation, meaning visa problems. “We are looking for the ways to solve this problem in the best way possible,” he said.
