Her Highness Princess Maja von Hohenzollern arrived in Donetsk yesterday to take part in the launch of a strategy aimed at solving the problem of homeless animals. This program was initiated by Renat Akhmetov’s Charity Foundation “Development of Ukraine” and Donetsk City Council. Under the project, the problem of homeless animals must be solved in a humane manner before May 2012.

“I have twelve dogs and three cats,” said the princess, “I picked them all at shelters. They are my best friends. The way pets love you is so pure; they expect no money, they don’t care whether you’re rich or poor, the way you look, how old you are, or whether you are a cripple. How many of your friends have such virtues?”

She called on Ukrainians to visit animal shelters and take some of them home.
