Refugees in Kyiv Now Have a Place to Turn to for Help

10 March, 00:00

The Center Was founded by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Ukraine and the Adventist Development and Aid Agency with the aim of helping primarily women and children who were forced to leave their homeland and settled in Ukraine. Center manager Tetiana Horiacha said that refugees will be worked with in several ways. The main one is adaptation to a new country: learning the history, culture, and customs of the host country. The center also envisions cultural and educational programs, organization of leisure activities, various meetings, and psychological advice. Children will be able to attend an art studio run by an Afghan artist Mohammed Akbar. The center’s founders face a far from easy task: to help people find their place in an alien country, amid an alien culture, for Ukrainian society is often at daggers drawn with refugees. But one must understand, sooner or later, that they are unhappy people, and our task is to help, rather than shun, them.
