RUKH RIFT THREATENS Caused by the forthcoming presidential campaign

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

"I am compelled to address this message to you because there is a real threat that there will be a split in Rukh, instigated by a group of its nomenklatura functionaries," is the opening line of party leader Vyacheslav Chornovil's statement forwarded to Rukh's Lviv regional organization. Among the reasons for the conflict are differing views on backing presidential candidates. Mr. Chornovil once again declares that Rukh will not support Leonid Kuchma, adding that a candidate will be approved by reaching an understanding with other national democratic forces. Lviv's position allows for supporting figures like Yevhen Marchuk, Yuliya Tymoshenko, or even Oleksandr Moroz, much to Mr. Chornovil's chagrin.

No one is certain about what will happen because Lviv's Rukh leaders have never identified anyone they are going to support in the presidential campaign.
