Russian-Ukrainian Border to Soon Be Finally Delimited

31 October, 00:00

The Russian-Ukrainian state border delimitation commission intends to finish the bulk of its work by the end of this year, Interfax quotes Dmitry Cherkashin, roving Russian ambassador and chairman of the commission’s Russian part, as saying. He also states, “We will refer our proposals, including the description of borderlines and new points on the map to the competent agencies for consideration and then to the governments of Russia and Ukraine.” The ambassador stressed that “Territorial alterations, negligible as they are, that arise when borders are being trimmed are to be compensated...We make a separate arrangement in each case of this kind,” Mr. Cherkashin said in an interview published by Trud-7 last Thursday. Mr. Cherkashin cited as an example, when the railway station Seletskaya, Briansk oblast, and the adjacent township found themselves on the territories of Ukraine and Russia, respectively. To avoid this kind of situations, he said, “the commission has made a proposal on an adequate exchange of small territories.”
