SDPU (United) Leader Names Allies and Opponents

SDPU(o) leader Viktor Medvedchuk feels sure that his party will win the parliamentary elections and will form a majority together with the For a United Ukraine, Women for the Future, and the Greens. “I have no doubt that there will be a majority in the new parliament and we will make every effort to be a member,” Mr. Medvedchuk told a press conference in Dnipropetrovsk on February 14. He also noted that Our Ukraine, United Ukraine, and the Communists are the key opponents of the United Social Democrats. When asked by journalists, he declined to predict SDPU(o) turnout in Dnipropetrovsk oblast and said that he had always considered the region Social Democrat territory. He further stated that his party will not nominate anyone for Dnipropetrovsk mayor and that support of other candidates is still to be decided upon, reports Interfax Ukraine. While visiting districts, the SDPU(o) leader denied allegations that his party is in any way involved with the situation with Kyiv Mayor Oleksandr Omelchenko.
