SDPU(o) For Civil Society

19 February, 00:00

“Relations between two states are determined by the extent of mutual understanding of political processes they are going through,” US Ambassador to Ukraine Carlos Pascual said at the February 11 meeting with SDPU(o) leader Viktor Medvedchuk. For this particular reason the issues brought up at the meeting touched not only on the relations between Ukraine and the US, for instance, the current problem of protecting intellectual property and US trade sanctions imposed on Ukrainian imports, but also on the situation in Ukraine, in part the election campaign that commenced on February 9 and prospects for building a civil society in Ukraine. On his part, Mr. Medvedchuk expressed the hope that the US will lift the trade sanctions imposed on Ukraine as it is taking resolute steps to protect intellectual property. Moreover, as the SDPU(o) leader put it, his party champions the multifaceted development of civil society in Ukraine and its parliamentary fraction is doing what it takes to create legal conditions propitious for the development of grassroots organizations.
