Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana has called on the newly elected Ukrainian parliament to foster the continuation of reforms in Ukraine, reports Deutsche Welle. The EU Council Secretary General expressed his satisfaction with the way the parliamentary elections were held. At the same time he admitted that the election campaign in Ukraine was far from perfect, judging from the opinions of observers sent by the European Parliament, the EU Council, and OSCE. As Mr. Solana stressed, the European Union wants Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada to pursue reforms, thus choosing the best and shortest path to Europe. He is positive the Ukrainian lawmakers should do what it takes to bring Ukraine as close to Europe as possible. As he put it: “The EU is looking forward to cooperating with Ukraine.”
