Switzerland Helps Ukrainian Former Prisoners

1 December, 1998 - 00:00

The first seven Ukrainian prisoners in concentration camps during World
War II last week received $400 each from the Swiss Holocaust Survivors'
Aid Fund. In all 1520 Ukrainian citizens are to receive such compensation;
Switzerland has already transferred money for 750 concentration camp survivors.

Switzerland will help only those Ukrainian citizens, who were persecuted
by Nazis due to their political views and were born before 1921. Prominvestbank
will pay out the money in monthly installments. Chairman of the Ukrainian
Union of Nazi Prisoners and Victims Markiyan Demydov noted that he hopes
this Swiss fund will also help other people who suffered from fascism,
our correspondent Natalia VIKULINA reports.
