Symonenko and Ziuganov to Integrate Former Soviet Republics

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

Interfax reports that Gennady Ziuganov and Petro Symonenko, leaders of the Russian and Ukrainian Communist parties, head a coordinating council to work out an action program aimed at reintegrating the former Soviet republics in conformance with a decision made at an international seminar of CIS and Baltic states national-patriotic forces.

According to Ziuganov, there are all the necessary preconditions a renewed union to be established in place of the former USSR. The CPRF leader also thinks the integration process would speed up dramatically only after the current Russian leadership headed by President Boris Yeltsin is dismissed.

There can be only some assumption about the integration plans of the national-patriotic forces. The plans themselves are not yet ripe. However, having known the methods and the goals of the Communists, one can foresee what the issue is. CIS Communists understand that their integrationism is on a verge of breaking national constitutions, and its possible forms do not exceed framework of a "union based on new principles." On the other hand, real communist style integration can be spoken of only when Communists will be about to form a government. There is no such a prospect either in Russia or Ukraine. Moreover, it contradicts the tactics of the CIS Communists which are benefiting from being in opposition. Thus, it can be treated as a common situation when external political problems are being used to attain internal goals. In particular, to confirm their image of integrators in eyes of pro-Communist voters.
