Terrorism Strikes Home

An act of terrorism took place against the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Moscow on Sunday at about 3 a.m. Two young people wearing masks threw a bottle with an incendiary mixture into the center’s doors. The fire was extinguished by the guards and a militia detachment.

The action was a protest against the crash of the Tu-154 plane in the Black Sea, read proclamations scattered around the Ukrainian Center. It was also stressed in the proclamations that the plane had been downed by a Ukrainian missile. Moreover, the perpetrators expressed their protest against Ukrainian policy towards Sevastopol. The proclamations also contain threats to Ukrainian political leaders and Ukrainians working in Moscow.

At present the culprits has not yet been arrested. According to certain information, the act might have been committed by members of the National Bolshevism Party headed by Eduard Limonov or of the Youth Communist Union of Russia.

According to UNIAN, the Embassy of Ukraine to the Russian Federation informed the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the incident and is preparing a note of protest to the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in its commentary expressed its concern about the incident and hope that the initiators and executors of this crime will be found soon and brought to account. “We also proceed from the assumption that Russian will take the necessary measures to prevent such provocations in the future,” stresses the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
