Three quarters of Venice is covered with water

On Monday November 12 due to heavy rains in northern and central Italy nearly three quarters of Venice was flooded. Stores, homes, and historic palaces, the famous Piazza San Marco... According to local authorities, who were quoted by Reuters, floods covered 70 percent of the lagoon city. High water in Venice reached 149 cm (5ft), the sixth highest level since records began in 1872. However, it has little effect on the flow of tourists. Some people walk to the waist in water enjoying the architecture of the city. But there are also those, who choose to take advantage of bad weather and dive on San Marco or sit in bathing suits at the tables, which are almost completely under water, at the local cafes.
