Into the Twenty-First Century With Yevhen Marchuk

Over three hundred founders and four hundred guests gathered in Kyiv last
Saturday to found the all-Ukrainian Into the Twenty-First Century with
Yevhen Marchuk social association.

Volodymyr Stretovych, leader of the Christian People's Union who has
recently been at all pro-Marchuk events, said, "The conditions of the totalitarian
regime and rapid transition to democratic development has led to society's
being divided into ours and theirs. And this juxtaposition has led those
in power to see themselves as temporary, but they do not want to leave.
And today there are parties which know that if they do not support the
current president they will not survive until October and if they make
a mistake in whom they back they will fold up immediately after October
31. And those who are present at this forum, if not very strong individually,
they have with eyes open come out for Marchuk and in fighting for his candidacy
they will grow and gain strength as a real political force."

Among those present were representatives of the Political Independence
of Ukraine Association, Osvitiany International Virtual University and
prominent Ukrainian intellectuals and cultural figures.

Platon Katseruba, student and head of the Young Republicans stated in
his address, "The idea of uniting the nation has still not been heard from
our politicians as a goal and means of reviving the country. Young people
from East and West are no different from each other; they have the same
worries, and they are all 'conscious' Ukrainians. We have no reason to
be divided. Marchuk is a man of decision, it was difficult for him to take
this step, but his very decisiveness will help him. He is able to reconcile
extremes."

The Kyiv forum decided to set its future founding forum for the Into
the Twenty-First Century with Yevhen Marchuk Association for June 5 in
Kyiv.
