Ukraine and Romania Continue Border Talks

22 January, 00:00

The next round of talks on the state border regime between Ukraine and Romania will be held on January 23-24 in Kyiv, Ihor Dolhov, official representative of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry who headed the Ukrainian delegation to the January 14 Ukrainian-Romanian consultations, told a briefing. The 1997 agreement on friendship and cooperation between Ukraine and Romania stipulates that if the parties fail to settle their differences they may turn to the International Court of Justice. Kyiv insists that Bucharest acknowledge the demarcation of the border as it was between Romania and the former Soviet Union. Diplomats of both countries are loath to precisely define their differences on this matter of contention.
