UKRAINE TO FORGE TANK SHIELD FOR PAKISTAN And maybe an air one

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

"Without more noise and journalists' questions" was how the Pakistan military delegation chaired by the Chief of Staff General Jakhanhir Karamat put how it wanted its stay in Ukraine treated.

Last week the general met with Ukrainian Minister of Defense, Chief of Staff, and the Minister of Industrial Policy behind closed doors. Much of their four day visit was dedicated to visiting the Morozov Construction Bureau and Malyshev Plant in Kharkiv, where Ukrainian arms manufacturers continue to forge the tank shield for Islamabad.

The $620 million contract to make 320 tanks for Pakistan is coming to its end. However, Islamabad is not quite satisfied with its two T-80 tank divisions. There is another project coming, this time to manufacture the MBT-2000 tank. China is taking part in this project along with Ukraine and Pakistan.

Previously they said the order volume would be 100 units, but now our Military Industrial Complex generals say they would not have started all that for a hundred tanks. Official Islamabad estimates India's advantage to be 900 tanks. Pakistan has also expressed interest in Ukrainian airplane building. Pakistani officers will pay a visit to the Antonov Aircraft Plant in Kyiv and the Kharkiv Aerospace Plant.
