Ukraine Is a Generous Debtor

In January-February the Ukrainian government repaid UAH 774 million of its state debt and channel 455 million to service the remaining debt, while it borrowed a mere UAH 79.3 million during the same period. Finance Minister Ihor Yushko stated on March 13 that all payments are made “strictly as scheduled in the agreements both on foreign debt restructuring and on conditions of internal loan repayment.” Moreover, the Finance Ministry has accumulated reserves to pay off the eurobonds due in March. “Beyond any doubt they will be paid, as currency reserves have been accumulated in state treasury accounts,” the minister said. According to him, in March Ukraine is ready to make payments on its foreign debt in the amount of UAH 1.16 billion, which will be the biggest payment this year.
