Ukraine Imports Sugar

Ukraine exported 66,900 tons of sugar worth $21.5 million in the first nine months of this year, 27,000 tons up on the same period of last year (39,900 tons worth $15.5 million), Interfax-Ukraine reports. This year Ukraine has exported sugar to twelve countries, down from 29 last year.

According to the State Statistics Committee, Russia is Ukraine’s largest trade partner. Over the period, 44,300 tons of sugar worth $13.2 million were exported to the Russian Federation (11,800 tons worth $4.4 million in 1998). Large consignments of sugar were also shipped to Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.

In January-September, Ukraine also imported 292,300 tons of sugar worth $60 million from 25 countries. In 1998 we imported 138,700 tons of sugar for $37.9 million from 20 countries. In 1999, Ukraine has imported sugar from Brazil, Cuba, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
