Ukrainian Saving Bank Chairman Dies In Car Accident

Oleksiy Veselovsky, 48 year-old Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Saving Bank died on August 15 in an automobile crash on the Mykolaiv - Domanivka - Holovanevsk highway in Mykolaiv oblast.

First Deputy Internal Affairs Minister of Ukraine Leonid Borodych told The Day that Veselovsky ran into a tree after losing control of his Daewoo. Mykolaiv oblast internal affairs officials reported that Veselovsky had been driving his private Daewoo from the wedding party of his friend at a speed of 140-150 kilometers per hour. There were four other people in the car besides the driver: the just married couple and two witnesses. Three people – Veselovsky and both witnesses – died instantly. The other two were transported to the hospital in the village of Veselynovo.

According to unofficial reports, denied by Internal Affairs Ministry top officials, a gunshot was found on the body of the well-known banker. An investigation has been launched to determine the causes of Veselovsky's death. Before taking over the Saving Bank, Veselovsky was Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian National Bank.
