Ukrainian Shipbuilders Have Chance to Win Tender

23 November, 00:00

Ukrainian shipbuilders will participate in the next phase of the bidding to provide the Bangladesh Navy with frigate class warships. Bangladesh was expected to determine the date of the next tender for several frigates by November 17, a representative of the Ukrainian military-industrial sector told UNIAN.

Chief Designer of the Ukrainian Shipbuilding Development Center Serhiy Kryvko said that Ukraine, represented by the Mykolayiv Shipbuilding Works, already won the June 22, 1997 interim tender in Bangladesh, where it and a South Korean firm bested ten other competitors. According to the Chief Designer, the Ukrainian shipwrights stand a fair chance to win, and if this will be the case, “it may involve a contract to build one ship worth over $100 million, and payment will be by cash, rather than through mutual offsets or barter.”
