Ukrainians in Christian Democratic International

The Ukrainian Christian People’s Union (CPU) was admitted to the International of Christian democratic and people’s parties. According to the CPU press service, last Monday the XIII Congress of the Christian Democratic International (CDI) complied with the request of the Ukrainian Christian Democrats and admitted the party to its organization with observer status. CDI President Wilfried Martens congratulated the CPU on its entry into the organization and expressed hope for close cooperation “for the sake of our common goals both on the national and global levels.” Moreover, on Saturday, the first stage of the IV CPU Congress took place in Kyiv, at which the party leadership was elected and some amendments to the party’s program and statute were made. Volodymyr Stretovych was reelected CPU leader, Interfax Ukraine reports. The congress delegates decided to ratify the CPU’s entry into a future election bloc at the second stage of the IV Party Congress which is scheduled for the near future.
