A Union to Revive the Union

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

The All-Ukrainian Union For the Revival of the USSR was created on Saturday at a founding conference held in a Kyiv suburb.

The most radical part of the Communist Party represented the core of newly created organization. Some people did not approve Petro Symonenko's intent to rid the party of its image as an anti-state force. They were even irritated by his speech given in Ukrainian.

This is why this movement was headed by the communist Volodymyr Moiseyenko who was famous for his love and loyalty to the Soviet Union. Thus he prevented the split of the Communist Party and was morally satisfied.

The union proclaimed that its goal was promotion of the revival of a Ukrainian sovereign soviet socialist state achieved on constitutional basis. This state would then unite with other soviet republics in a renewed Union of Soviet Socialist Republics basing on the principles of voluntariness, equality and federalism.

Moiseyenko said that it would be an absurdity to revive the USSR by means of force. Former Verkhovna Rada Deputy Anatoly Yurkovsky claimed that during his visit to the NATO headquarters in Brussels he became a witness of the preparations for Ukraine's being pulled into NATO. He added that countermeasures against NATO's expansion to the East may result in their uniting with the forces struggling to revive the USSR.

Participants in the conference adopted a decree on the entry of All-Ukrainian Union For Revival of the USSR into the international movement For the Union of Fraternal Nations.
