Vitali Klitschko will return

Only a question of time and motivation

For the many-time world boxing champion Vitali Klitschko, motivation is the key thing. After last Saturday’s spectacular bout against Samuel Peter, which he later admitted in Kyiv was a difficult one, Vitali has rested up and is now thinking about the future.

He says that “so far he does not have any goals either in boxing or politics.” He does not have any boxing goals because he has already achieved them. The two Klitschko brothers are simultaneous world champions, which has never happened before.

Vitali doesn’t have any political goals because he wants to do something useful for his country. But it is still not known when the elections will take place, if ever. He is inspired by one thing. “I have a great motivation to write a history of boxing, to do what nobody has ever done before me.” But he is ready to take up challenges from both boxing and politics. According to him, political challenges will come first for his reputation.

“Today, there are so many speculations and so much interest in seeing either Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko on one political list or another. But I am not going to take part in the next political serial. I have enough opportunities that I don’t have to take any steps that would be risky for my reputation. I spent two years in politics, and I can say that the most frequent method used by our politicians is backstabbing.

“Unfortunately, their victories are not for the sake of Ukraine. These are victories of one person over another, and they have nothing in common with honor. So, if Klitschko’s bloc takes part in the elections (if they take place), our bloc will gather the young generation that has not been tarnished either by corruption or other scandals — those who want to see Ukraine as a European state,” Vitali said.

Speaking about motivation, he said he does not want to be either a “wedding emcee” or a “button pusher” in the Verkhovna Rada, and if his team decides to take part in the elections, this decision will be made for the sake of victory and changes in Ukraine by people to whom he “won’t be afraid to show his back.” If the team wants to take part in big-time politics, Vitali has promised to issue an official announcement.

“I often use the word ‘victory,’ because any person and any country can fall into depression without victories: it is hard to live without an emotional component,” the world champion said. It was because of his desire to win that he agreed to fight Peter. To him it was an “adventure,” because many experts had discouraged him from doing this because of the operations he has endured and the four years he spent away from the ring.

But victory is inspiring and generates new strength, despite the difficult path of recovery after every bout. We will definitely be seeing him many more times in the ring. After his victory over Peter, promoter Don King offered 45 million dollars to boxer Lennox Lewis, who defeated Vitali Klitschko four years ago, winning the title of world heavyweight champion, to fight the Ukrainian. After the bout Lennox said he was ready to give Klitschko a chance for a comeback, but it has never happened.

“I think that a fight with the Russian Nikolai Valuev, who has a champion belt that we don’t have, would be an interesting one. (The Klitschko brothers have three belts — O. M.). But we are not talking about these kinds of plans at the moment. I like to win. Behind every victory is the hard work of a team, not just one person. If we decide on another fight, the whole team will make this decision. There are a lot of people who put their energy into a victory,” Vitali said.

The world heavyweight champion has a lot to say about dreams and the need to set oneself goals. He has earned the right to lecture us, especially our politicians, because his life is an example worth emulating.
