Volodymyr Lytvyn forecasts decrease in the number of leftists in future Parliament

13 June, 00:00

According to Volodymyr Lytvyn, head of the Presidential Administration, Ukraine’s political post-referendum situation can be characterized as a stable one. This stability, however, is rather shaky: it facilitates antagonism among different political forces, since certain parties review the possibility of pre- term presidential elections. On the other hand, most political forces and politicians are not accustomed to existing in a stable political climate. Volodymyr Lytvyn states that those particular circumstances obstruct strengthening the tendency towards stabilizing the country’s political situation. Speaking at the seminar for mass-media representatives yesterday, he stated, “Presently we need to introduce reasonable programs and approaches, to aim at laborious work, which at first sight might seem insignificant and unpopular. It is a signal for political parties that one needs to search further, to learn to find new approaches in one’s work.” According to V. Lytvyn, the Presidential Administration tried to forecast the possible results of the parliamentary elections on the basis of different electoral systems. We arrived at the conclusion that there will be no major changes in the political balance. Although a minor decrease in the number of “classical leftists” in the future Parliament might follow.” Elaborating on the situation in the fuel and energy complex, Volodymyr Lytvyn stated, “We are not talking personally about the Vice-Prime-Minister for the fuel and energy complex. The central issue today is what has to be done to prevent the country’s system from collapsing. This is the point of view that the situation will be analyzed from at tomorrow’s session with the participation of the President. As far as I can tell, the President will in the first place demand a firm decision to improve the state of affairs in the fuel and energy complex, as with all the talks about improvements, there are no obvious results. As to the personnel issues, the Prime Minister should make suggestions on the candidates. The President will review coming suggestions, if any.”
