The new edition of Wars and Peace (Viyny i Myr) by The Day’s Library is now available for purchase! This is the third publication of the book. It was carried out thanks to the help of Anatolii Kinakh, president of the Ukrainian Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (UAIE), and Ivan Pietukhov, president of the Adamant Company Group. The second edition was sponsored by Rinat Akhmetov’s Charity Foundation “Development of Ukraine” in 2007. The total number of printed copies now is 5,000.

Wars and Peace, or Ukrainians and Poles: Brothers/Enemies, Neighbors was published in Ukrainian and Polish simultaneously in 2004, the year of Poland in Ukraine. The book was dedicated to one of the most renowned public figures, Jacek Kuron. The project received the blessings of the Cardinal of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of that time, Liubomyr (Huzar.) The foreword was written by editors-in-chief of The Day and Gazeta Wyborcza, Larysa Ivshyna and Adam Michnik.

The book was noticed at once and received multiple awards: at the Publishers Forum in Lviv (the Diploma of the Forum’s president Oleksandra Koval), at the Warsaw Book Fair (the award for the consolidation of Polish-Ukrainian relations), in “Book of the Year” rating (the first prize in nomination “The Past”). Later, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine at the request of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences resolved to give the classification “To be used as auxiliary literature” in the middle school education process to the books of The Day’s Library, including Wars and Peace.

Anatolii KINAKH, Ukrainian MP, president of the UAIE, co-chairman of the Ukrainian-Polish Partnership Forum:

“The next meeting of the Ukrainian-Polish Partnership Forum is going to take place on May 25 in Lutsk. This event is certainly going to certify that Ukraine and Poland are important to each other not only as trade, economic, and investment partners. There is a saying, ‘A kind and honest neighbor is better than distant family.’ We see that Poland supports our European integration aspirations. The Polish want to help us with the establishment of the European standards of economic development, living standards, and democratic values in Ukraine. Our countries are connected with cultural and humanitarian ties, common history, which, unfortunately, has not always been serene.

“However, it is important to be aware of the real historical truth, no matter how painful it is. This is stated in the wonderful book Wars and Peace, which was now published for the third time by The Day’s Library. We should also pay tribute to the Polish and Ukrainian communities, who initiated the creation of the Ukrainian-Polish Partnership Forum as a platform for an open exchange of ideas and development of the most constructive dialogue between Poland and Ukraine which is based on facts and the research of our past, the analysis of current economic and political processes. We are working on strengthening of the spirit of mutual understanding, friendship and mutual respect between Poland and Ukraine. We are doing our best to pass on to future generations high moral values, and the spirit of trust and sympathy.

“The publication of the book mentioned above was great support for us (the book was edited by The Day’s editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna). I am certain that only the full and extensive historical truth about our ancient and recent past, the objective and honest answers to difficult questions can become the foundation in the process of establishing mutual understanding and good relations between the nations. I am convinced that together we can consolidate the Ukrainian-Polish partnership for the prosperity of our nations.”
