Oct. 31 1995: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratifies the Law linking it to the Statute of the Council of Europe

1999: As a result of the presidential elections in Ukraine no candidate obtains the legally required number of votes. Another round is held, which is won by Leonid Kuchma and Petro Symonenko.

Nov. 1 1966: The world’s largest aircraft Antei is launched into serial production.

1991: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopts the “Declaration on the Rights of Nationalities.”

Nov. 2 1941: The radio station “Soviet Ukraine” starts broadcasting from Moscow.

1973: The first section of the thin sheet rolling mill “3600” is launched at the metallurgical works Azovstal.

Nov. 3 1918: Bukovyna’s viche (popular assembly) proclaims the reunification of Bukovyna with Ukraine.

1943: Troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front launch an offensive, liberating Kyiv and setting up a strategic bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnipro.

Nov. 4 1959: The diorama The Storming of Mt. Sapun opens in Sevastopil.

1990: The Day of Memory honoring the victims of the Holodomor is marked for the first time all over Ukraine.

Nov. 5 1920: A convention on joint military operations against the Bolsheviks is signed in Warsaw by officials of the Ukrainian National Republic and the Russian Political Committee.

1953: The USSR’s first all-welded bridge designed by Yevhen Paton is launched into operation in Kyiv.

Nov.6 1943: Troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front liberate the capital city of Soviet Ukraine in the course of Operation Kyiv.

2001: President Leonid Kuchma of Ukraine pays a one-day visit to Poland and addresses a conference dedicated to the struggle against international terrorism.
